Home Ownership Alternatives established the June Callwood Home Ownership Fund to help families become home owners by reducing the level of income and the amount of personal down payment needed to buy a home.
June Callwood believed that people can thrive when given an opportunity and was a founding member of Home Ownership Alternatives.
She was a journalist, author and social activist, well known as “Canada’s Conscience” and considered herself a servant to society. June’s activism spanned many just causes, from fighting poverty and illness to supporting women and children in crisis. Among her many accomplishments, June founded;
- Digger House, a shelter for homeless youth;
- Nellie’s, a shelter for women in crisis;
- Jessie’s Centre for Teenagers;
- Casey House hospice, named in memory of her sonand the first hospice in the world to provide care for people with HIV/AIDS.
